The Florida Department of Education requires that all students comply with statewide testing laws in order to graduate. The State of Florida requires that students must pass the following statewide assessments:

• Grade 10 English Language Arts (ELA) or a concordant score
• Algebra 1 end-of-course (EOC) or a comparative score

While enrolled in Algebra 1, Geometry, Biology 1, and U.S. History, students must participate in the EOC assessments, which constitute 30 percent of the final course grade.

Cultural Event

A cultural event is defined as an administratively approved event relating to the fine arts or an administratively approved study or experience of a different ethnic culture other than one’s own. Every student must attend one each semester and provide proof of participation. Any or all cultural events will not be counted if completed during school hours.

Government Meeting

A government meeting is defined as an administratively approved event relating to local agencies, boards, committees, and other government “bodies.” City council, zoning commission, and school board meetings are some examples of what would count. Every student must attend one each semester and provide proof of participation.

Grades are calculated for both a  weighted and unweighted GPA on a 4.0 scale. GPA is cumulative and calculated semi-annually. All AP, dual enrollment, and honors courses earn an additional 1.0 point when calculating a weighted GPA, except for a grade of “D” or “F.”

The IRCHS AP Program is now in its fourteenth year. At the program's inception, IRCHS offered two AP courses. IRCHS now offers a full complement of AP courses. All courses are authorized by the College Board. IRCHS has recently been named an AP Capstone school. Students who take AP courses are required to participate in the national AP test dates in May. AP courses are available in Art, English, Mathematics, Music, Science, and Social Studies.

The foremost reason for our school location is to facilitate the opportunity for a wide range of dual enrollment classes. All classes will be registered through the Guidance Department. College teachers hold students to a high standard. Students should not enroll in a class for which they are not committed to doing their very best. Additionally, students may not withdraw from a class after Drop/Add Week. To be eligible, students must have an unweighted 3.0 GPA and pass the P.E.R.T. Test with at least: 103-Writing, 106-Reading, and 114- Math.

Indian River Charter High School offers honors classes in most academic areas. Our primary goal is to offer our students the opportunity to take the most rigorous classes in which they can be successful. Students may take honors classes in as many or as few academic areas as they desire based on their strengths, grades, test scores, future plans, and interests. Parents and/or students who desire more information about eligibility for IRCHS honors classes should contact the student’s counselor.
