February 2012RSS
New Sewing Club:
IRCHS will be starting a sewing club on Tuesdays from 3:00-4:00. The club meetings will be held in RM 311. The first class will focus on hand sewing a wrist pin cushion. Students will also try some embroidery stitches. Fabrics will be discussed. Fabrics will be supplied for this class.

The next project will be a lined tote bag (for toting their projects to class). You will learn straight sewing on a machine. We will go over threading a machine and pressing with an iron.

The following project will be a lined zipper bag (for sewing tools that the students may want for their own use). This project you will learn to install a zipper.

After these projects are completed, I will get a sense of where your skills are and inquire as to what you wish to learn.

I will also teach basic crochet if anyone wishes to give it a try.

The class will be taught by Ms. Katherine Solley. You must come and see Ms. Aversa if you are interested in being in the club. The first meeting will be Tuesday, January 31st at 3:00-4:00 in Ms. Gaines room.

Missing Books:
There has been an increase in the number of lost textbooks. Students are complaining about other students “borrowing” textbooks from homebases. DO NOT TAKE another persons textbook if you have forgotten to bring your own. Please be a responsible student and take care of your textbook. If your name is registered to a missing book you will be responsible to pay for the lost book. Textbooks are often left on picnic tables, under trees, around the basketball court, etc. These books are very expensive, please take care of them.

Pasta for Pennies:
Today, our school joins 25,000 schools nation-wide in the Pasta for Pennies program. For the month of February, we will help people who are sick with blood cancers like leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. All you have to do is collect coins and other donations and put them in your classroom's collection box. Remember that every penny counts! Our school goal is to raise $1,000. Does your Homebase have a goal?

P.S. The Homebase that raises the most will be rewarded a Pasta Party courtesy of Olive Garden. Pasta, salad, and breadsticks will be catered right to your Homebase classroom!

We're also hanging up signs around school and distributing the collection boxes all 11:30 tomorrow.
