Dear Students and Parents of Indian River Charter High School,

We look forward to reopening the school very soon.  We have had many questions regarding how school will reopen.  Hopefully, we can address them in this message.  There are two attachments to this message.  Please read both carefully, as they contain critical information.  Attached is our full Reopening Plan.  It contains detailed information regarding how school will operate this year.  Also attached, is the 'Beginning of the Year Parent Letter', which contains critical information about dates and times to be on campus for orientation.   Below, in the body of this message, you will find information on how to register your student for an alternative option.  Read on to learn more about this process.

The staff of IRCHS are working diligently to ensure that all students continue to have the opportunity to learn and excel.  We have spent the Summer preparing for reopening in adherence with CDC guidelines to safeguard against COVID.  Face masks will be required for all students while on campus and will be provided for students who do not have them.  Gloves will be available in every classroom.  Portable handwashing stations have been ordered and will be placed throughout the school.  Hand sanitizer dispensers have been placed in every classroom.  Infrared, touchless thermometers will be provided to all teachers to perform temperature checks in the morning.  There will also be freestanding infrared temperature check stations on campus for faculty and visitors.  Ultraviolet air filters have been placed within all central air conditioning units in the school.  These filters sterilize air that passes through them by killing bacteria and mold with ultraviolet light.

This school year, IRCHS will offer an innovative instructional model which blends in-person learning on campus and virtual learning from home.  Students will be on campus every other day, so that half of the population is on campus one day, and the other half of the population is on campus the next.   Wednesdays will be digital days where students learn from home.  This schedule will help the school abide by social distancing guidelines established by the CDC.  On days when students are learning from home, they will log in to Google Classroom and attend class in real time.

The default option is for students to participate in the innovative instructional model and alternate days on campus.  If we do not hear from you by July 22nd, your student will be registered for this option and assigned to Group A or Group B.  Some families may need for their child to attend school in-person more days per week.  Alternatively, some families may need for their child to remain home every day and continue distance learning due to medical concerns.  We are happy to accommodate your educational needs.  To select an alternative option: students with last names that start with A-F should contact Ms. Lori Kafer, with last names that start with G-L, Ms. Cynthia Aversa, with last names that start with M-S, Mrs. Megan Burlison, and with last names that start with T-Z, Mr. Jeremy Mezzina.  Their contact information is listed at the bottom of this message.

We anticipate most students will participate in the innovative instructional model and be on campus every other day.  Through this model, students can safely enjoy the academic discovery, social development, and individualized support that IRCHS takes pride in.  Our reopening plan is subject to change as new directives are issued by the State and the public health situation evolves.  COVID presents an unprecedented challenge.  Unforeseen issues are a certainty, and no State, District, or School plan can perfectly predict how the situation will unfold.  When new challenges arise, we look forward to working with our families to find solutions together.
