We hope everybody had an inspirational & thoughtful day of rest yesterday // here are some facts about Martin Luther King Jr. Day:
• Designed to honor Martin Luther King Jr., MLK Day became a federal holiday in 1983

• It was the first federal holiday in the U.S. to honor an African American

• It was officially observed in all 50 states for the first time in 2000

& last but not least, a fact about Michael [Martin] Luther King Jr. himself:

Did you know King entered college at the Age of 15 (yes, the same age many of our students enter their second year of IRCHS!) King was such a gifted student that he skipped grades 9 and 12 before enrolling in 1944 at Morehouse College, the alma mater of his father and maternal grandfather. After earning a divinity degree from Pennsylvania’s Crozer Theological Seminary, King attended graduate school at Boston University, where he received his Ph.D. degree in 1955. - C. Klein
