Visual Art

The fundamental goal of the visual arts department is to foster love of learning, exploration, and experimentation in students new to the study of visual art.

For those students considering art school or careers in the arts, the visual arts department endeavors to provide challenging and thought-provoking project assignments in collaboration with student’s interests. The process and product of these projects can be used for college portfolios, contests, and scholarship applications. Students in upper-level classes have consistently been admitted to competitive programs throughout the state and country. Students have also been awarded local and national scholarships. including but not limited to the Vero Beach Art Club scholarship, scholarships to the Savannah College of Art and Design, the Sebastian Art Club scholarship, Ringling College of Art and Design, and the Congressional Competition scholarship to Savannah College of Art and Design.

To promote an integrated learning environment, students are required to complete projects related to a thematic time period each semester. These products are displayed in our visual and performing arts (VAPA) showcases and during various community events and showcases.

IRCHS believes in the integration of art into our local community and strives to have our students involved. We have completed a community mural, participated in art walks, and our work has been shown annually at the Vero Beach Museum of Art.  The goal of the program is to truly nurture a passion for the arts.
